Benems Supports Autism Acceptance

Our Story

Benems is proud to help manage the transitions of new flooring and carpets for those who deserve our understanding and knowledge.  Awareness means you know about neurodiversity, we embrace acceptance which is called for by autistic people, seeing them as equal requiring understanding.  We live in a world designed with systems for the majority, the neurotypical, which invariably makes the journey for those who are neurodiverse one that brings greater challenges than for those who are not.

Benems, a family business, has first hand experience and feel blessed with our ‘tour guides’, who we love, adore and share our lives with.  That which is deeply personal has also served to encourage us in reaching out to others towards a comprehension of conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD, which we believe is important for us all to learn.  We do this by fully recognising and embracing individuality, whatever complexity of needs, and within that, seeing each individual’s potential.  As we share the journey, we also help break down the walls of prejudice and stigma.

Benems has worked closely with local schools; Arthur Bugler and Treetops, helping to create safe spaces, such as sensory rooms, areas for development of life skills and for vocational training.  We warmly embrace every opportunity that enables us to help the diversity within our community.

With guidance from those with lived experience along with professionals the team at Benems has gained insights into just how a particular choice of flooring can impact on individuals with autism, their senses attuned to a different frequency than those who are not.  For individuals with autism certain flooring and carpets can be distressing due to qualities that make a difference on sensory sensitivity and the challenges with processing information.  A sudden shift in colour, texture, or material can act as a visual or tactile barrier, making it harder to navigate and understand the surrounding environment.  However, well-considered variations in flooring can prove to be hugely beneficial, helping individuals differentiate spaces and understand direction.  By carefully considering these factors, it is possible to create spaces that are both functional and sensory friendly, promoting a sense of comfort and well-being.

The Benems team is proud to help with adapting to change and fulfilling the required expectations for management within your homes, autism friendly places and specialised centres, within required timelines.  We all require spaces that are our sanctuary, be it at home or elsewhere, and by spending time with our customers we rise up to meet the needs of firstly the autistic child or adult, alongside those of the parent and/or carer.  Call in to see us, whereby we can share our knowledge, learn about your unique needs, towards aligning with the exclusive requirements for those who you share your spaces with.
